That's fantastic! Where'd the new wheels come from? I scored a set of the same hubcaps for my jeep but needs wheels to fit em.

44bz, thanks! I bought them from BJ's And they got them through Stockton Wheel. They were shipped straight from Stockton Wheel. They're the 6 lug Chevy/Jeep rim (but wider) as the axles under the 65 are from a 77 Chief. KaiserJeep gave me a set of 4 baby moon caps from the 70's that were the AMC red, white, and blue, but I painted the blue portion of the caps similar to the Kaiser-era gold to match the vintage of the jeep, all I have are the 60's caps. A special thanks to KaiserJeeps!

Thanks! I am pleased with the way it's turning out. I needed new tires to make the jeep more road worthy. One of a billion things to do- but one of a few to be able to drive her all around town on errands- safely.

Now that three of the window regulators have been fixed, 62Thriftside also learned how to install door panels from a 1414X doner. The rear doors did not come with factory arm rests. So either mod the panels later, or get the brackets to hang the arm rests. I'll figure that out later.

A special thanks to Al, aka KaiserJeeps on ifsja, for the hubcap set to complete the look! I was missing the front caps and Al sent a complete set over when I only needed the fronts. Thank you so much Al!



I snagged the rear cargo area black panels off the 1414X and put them on. One side is pretty warped, but that's an easy fix for later. I might even get the chance to clean them. I dug through my stash and sourced a fan shroud for her and that will eventually get put on.

The tires, wheels, and hubcaps look excellent! Cool wide steelies...they're basically like what was on my truck when I bought it. The original owner had installed some pretty wide Kelsey-Hayes 16.5" steel wheels and I only got rid of them since the 16.5" size was becoming less common.

What is the silver knob on the passenger side of your dash for?

Thanks! I am running 16.5" runs on the 66, when I need new tires, I'm going to have to get new rims, too. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Isn't that silver knob is a southern California "oh Poop" handle? Rofl. Actually, it is just there, like a pull knob of a kitchen drawer. It serves no purpose that I can fathom.

I wish it had the 327 for you, but it has a strong "Hi Torque 6" otherwise known as the 232,; pushing 145 hp, 215 ft lbs of torque. Th400, Dana 20 t-fer case.

It runs strong, but leaks oil worse that any other jeep I've seen.

It did come with some original paperwork, dealer spec literature, and the ads for it from the local dealership. The dealership was just a few miles from our neighborhood back in the day.

Yeah, there's nothing like a little bit of local history. I am keeping an eye out for a 327 vig for you; we've got to keep these old trucks on the road here in the Northwest! If they're anywhere, they're here.

Those are the coolest finds! I love that stuff...so great to picture someone going to pick that thing up new back in the day. The dealer where my truck was bought new is no longer around but it was at least near where I live now. Somehow I like knowing my truck has always been local.

The last ad in the pics above says: "Out our way we trade your way." These old slogans are great!

I like the one that says 'Lifetime warranty'. Can you imagine after 50 years.

It would actually be great marketing for the dealership... would probably get a spot on CNN.

I think the same way. I was looking at the two panel deliveries listed wondering where they are now. Probably closer than we would think.

Yeah, it's be very slick indeed. Imagine modern dealerships having a resto-mod shop, or a restoration shop- heck, even just a few of their brand's classic rigs on site! That would be sweet, but not cost effective.

I am trying to make the 65 family friendly, so the rear seat area has to get seat belts. The first step is to raise the seat up over the well it's meant to rest in when I use. In other words, the lid has to close, and the seat has to open on top of it.

In-between sanding 62Thriftside's inner fender, block sanding the panel, I found time to swap out the rear seat mounting brackets. The 65's are the shorter, Amber Poly. The 77 Cherokee Widetrack's are green and black (primer and flat enamel). Using the taller, thicker brackets will let me sit the seat on top of the lid- then I can put seat belts in safely. It did not come with rear seat belts.
