Bad lands winch

Post by comet the dog »

So the wife bought me a 12000 hf badlands winch, I've decide to mount it on a reciever so I can share it between my rigs. My question is, can or will these winches accept the synthetic ropes? Goid god that thing is heavy, figured I could drop some tonnage by switching out the steel cable. Whatcha all think.
thanks rob

I would use it a couple times before spending the money on synthetic cable.

YEs they will accept synthetic no problem. Actually the HF winches are pretty well known to be a good option if not wanting to spend a ton of money on a winch.

300' of 3/8" cable weighs around 50-60 Lbs I recall.
Also, for quick install and switching you can use Safe-T-con connectors like we used on tow trucks.
Not cheap, but would make swapping the winch to another vehicle or from front to rear much faster.

Synthetic cable is better in every way. Its more durable, safer, and of course, way lighter.

Almost got my 82 wagoneer road worthy, once that's done I'll make my mount for the winch and post some pics, of course that all depends on me keeping my hand off my j10 project. I'm kinda known for getting distracted by ideas.

Traded 300$ winch for 600$ tires. Also realized after researching and reading I really don't need a winch.

Understand, just wondering if you had problems with it.

The minute (or month) after you say you don't need a winch...
Well, that's how jeeps work.

I have had the Badlands 12k on my trailer.
It will pull about the same as my Warn M8000, maybe slightly less and way less line speed.
It will get hot, keep your hand on the motor housing, when you feel it getting warm take a break and drink a bottle of water.
It's a good buy on sale, not so much at regular retail price for what it can do.
It does make a great trailer winch for sure.
