Mile Marker set up their hydraulic winches to work off the powersteering pump at 1500psi and 3.5 gallons per minute. That only gives line speeds of around 5.65 feet per minute. That's pretty darn slow. Then, if you end up having to double or triple line it gets realllllllyyyy sssslllllooowwww. hahaMudbull wrote:... Can I ask why are you putting in an aux pump? Also, while researching stepping the winch up to 10,500 lbs I noticed that the hydraulic motors Mile Marker chose to use were operating well outside their efficiency range. And it got even worse when stepping flow up to 12 gallons per minute to increase line speed. By choosing another motor that operates at the same speed and torque well within its efficiency range it won't heat the fluid up as quickly, helping keep the temp down. Unlike electric winches, you can run a hydraulic winch all day long, with fluid temp usually being the limiting factor.
Also, by putting a hydraulic pump on the Cummins it opens up the ability to mount a snow plow or some other piece of hydraulic equipment in the future. I have a design in my head for making a detachable auger for boring fence post holes and other things
