Peaches come from a can,
They were put there by a man
In a factory downtown
If I had my little way,
Id eat peaches every day
Sun-soakin bulges in the shade

:D

NICE find! :-bd

I think you did good for $400. That has the 727 and 2nd generation QuadraTrac which is a NP219. That is a good case for a full time 4wd unit and has 2.61:1 low range. With 3.31 gears, your'e real good for offraod capability. Congrats!

Its a 2v for sure, 4v was not offered in that year.

Outside of the paint job (Which I think is probably great for actual cammo out in Nevada) the body looks to be in great shape. Your tailgate certainly looks nice.

Thank you. I once had a '79 CJ 7 304 QT

and I was looking at a part time kit for it. Do they still make them, or is it worth it.

Yes the 3:31 is a good all around gear. I still need to crawl under it and take some pics to verify the T-case/Tranny, hopefully it will agree w/you :)

I dont think they made a part time kit for the 219, but the 208 is a direct swap. You might have a drive shaft length issue.

Nice find. I have one I saved like that. It had a dead 401 in it when I got it, I threw a used 360 into it and DD'd it for 3 years. I finally wore it out enough I had to park it.
How close to driving it are you?

Thanks. How bad is the All Time 4WD. I did have the '79 CJ 304 AWD and 3.54 gears it it was not that good on gas.

I pulled it home yesterday, and it ran when they parked it 3 yrs ago. I need a power steering hose (cut) and then put a battery in it. It is a qt low on oil so I will dump a qt of MMOil in it to help free up some stuff. I also need to check the gas tank and drain it if necessary since it has been sitting.

The guy said it smoked a little but that is ok, I'll work through it.

If you are able to, squirt some oil into each cylinder. Just in case some moisture got in there. This will help prevent breaking a ring.

As for fuel economy, its really pretty minimal. You may gain a little by switching to an NP208. And you would need a rear drive shaft if switching. Pretty sure the front is the same though.

Thanks, maybe not worth messing w/the part-time case etc.

As for the oil in the cylinders, what type and or how much. The compartment is tight so maybe a hose and pour some down it. Would MMOil work?

Thanks everyone for all the help,
Jim

Just spray in some penetrating oil. Mystery Marvel Oil or similar will work, let it sit for a few days if possible. Just don't spray in too much as then it may be hard to start.

I unfortunately did not do this many years ago when awaking a built 460 from its slumber. It sat for several years. One of the cylinders got moisture in it. Started it up and broke a ring.

The other thing to do is turn it over by hand, rather than with the starter. If it turns over easily by hand, then chances are you are fine and you don't need to worry about the oil.
