Plain 'ol coils (Like cu4wheelin did as mentioned by RamJet above) is much easier to do. As they are much shorter so they do not require the same space. Coil overs are not compact (Except for EVO's rear lever setup). Not that it can't be done, just takes more work to do it right.
I disagree. I think coilovers or, in my case, ORIs are much easier to package. I had to put spacers on my rear wheels because the coil buckets rubbed the inside of the tire. There's a plethora of aftermarket items now that make mounting these much easier. However, you will have to link it and that's not all that easy. The rear is a piece of cake. The front takes some finesse. I've done it but I need to make adjustments.
