I know these are popular items around here, but three different part numbers of HF jackstands, both 3 ton and 6 ton, have been ordered recalled by the NHSTA.
I hear you, I try not to buy anything made in China. But look around for US made jack stands. When all the options are Chinese, what value is in the brand name?

Thanks for the heads up. I’m actually ok with buying stuff like jack stands from harbor freight. It’s their more complicated stuff I tend to shy away from. But considering my newest jack stands from them are probably 20-25 years old, perhaps the newer stuff is made of inferior metal? I do inspect my stuff throughly once a year and a cursory once-over before each use. I also tend to use a much heavier stand than the vehicles weight would suggest needing.
From the description in the article, they claim the root problem is "worn out tooling", and the presenting problem is the pawl can slip when under load. Sounds to me like the angle of the teeth is off.

I never crawl under if it is only supported by the jack.
I always add secondary 'emergency' items in place when on Jack Stands. Usually a tire under the car or a second set of stands.
Yeah, I always put the tire I pull off under the vehicle. So if it falls, at least I don't get totally crushed. My jack stands are about 20 years old, Jack is about 18, and its actually starting to get worn out. Not looking forward to finding another one that isn't $500+.
Actually it occurs to me that a few of these may have been 'raffle prizes' at the annual Ouray Invasion. If you won a set, please check the part number on the stickers.
