I have seen plenty of Willys Wagon/Truck on Wagoneer frames. The frame has to be shortened some, but otherwise they work pretty well. I would think you could do something similar with the commando, and that way you get a stronger frame, with better suspension setup.

I think you might have to shorten and narrow it they aren't that big

Per my reply at the mother ship, too narrow. A Jeepster will nearly fall through a Wagooneer frame (hyperbole). A Jeepster has the same footprint as a CJ-6.

An FSJ has a frame width (up front) of 34.25"

A CJ6/Commando has a frame width of 29.25"

A Willys Wagon has a frame width of 29.5" or 32" depending on year.

There was at least on YJ put onto a Cherokee frame on IFSJA many years ago. And a YJ frame is only a bit wider than a CJ.

Obviously new mounts would need to be made. And there may be some other issues with the wider frame. Most likely more so in back. Not impossible, but would require some more digging.

A '71 Jeepster also has a wheelbase of 101", while the Wagoneer is 109". So there's that too.

Plenty of CJ and Jeepster owners have put Wagoneer axles under their rigs. It's a fairly straightforward way to get a front 44. The 27 in a '71 Jeepster is 51" WMS to WMS, and Wagoneer is 58" IIRC. You must outboard the front springs, but it's not that difficult. JMO - a lot of trouble to make a the Wagoneer frame fit, compared to mounting the wider axles.

A Jeepster is pretty cool just the way it is. I'd wheel it.

Yeah I mentioned the frame has to be shortened in my first post up above. You have to do a similar thing for putting a Willys Wagon/Truck onto an FSJ frame.

I kind of fooled around with the idea of putting an early Explorer frame and drive train under my 67, IIRC the frame would have to be shortened a couple of inches depending on what year donor you used

I ran across a guy at home depot the other day with a 48 willys pickup on a lengthened TJ chassis and that thing was bada$$. He even had the TJ dash in there and it fit like a glove. Retained the factory A/C too. Personally if I was putting a commando body on anything other than a commando chassis it would be going on a TJ chassis and powertrain. FSJ's are too big for them in my opinion.
