My 82/85 build

Hey everyone,
I am pretty new to writing or commenting on anything here. I have been lurking for years dreaming of owning a FSJ.
Over the winter i ran into a guy few hours south of me selling J10 an j10 parts truck.
I immediately e-transfered him his asking price of 1700 to hold the trucks. Winter in Saskatchewan makes locating or transporting them impossible.
This began the longest wait of my life! 2.5 months later i drove 4.5 hours to location of my trucks.
I was remarkably calm all day.... until we drove out of farm yard and hit highway with my 82 in the rear view mirror!

I have been planning and dreaming about this build for 2 years. I have excel sheets with budgets and plans. Part locations etc.
Week 1: All plans and budgets are out the window!

This is the 1985 J10 Pioneer. These pictures are reason i bought the trucks.
This jeep has been parked since 1991. I am told that there was an engine fire and it was parked in back of Quonset and forgotten about.
I am not sure how. I could smell car fire outside from 20 feet away.

The parts that remain are in amazing shape. i see nothing but surface rust on frame. No rust inside or outside of the cab. The inside of the box looks brand new minus the rust along seam you can see through.

This will be the foundation of my build. I also bought a rear dana 44 from the guy for $50 to replace the AMC. ya ya i know i will get harassed about this. Don't care I want the dana 44 front and rear.

Hey, how is it going? Interesting couple of toys you found! Last year I found two Wagoneers parked on this guy's yard for the last 20 years.. needless to say I bought them right there and then, just like you did.. I am glad I am not the only impulse buyer in Saskatchewan.. haha

Wow nice finds! That pioneer is SO rust free! And at a good price too! I will be following along to see how they end up.

Following here too, as I just brought home a 1984 Grand Wagoneer, with interior rougher than either truck above.

But, being an AZ USA truck, the body is only surface rust (patina they call it). Most of my cost for revival will be the interior.

Hey Everyone, its been some time since I updated. Life you know...

As you can see i have come a long way since starting this project. The theme on the project is attempt to do everything myself. Take my time. I work in Information Technology as a Career...so no clue what im doing ;). I have strong Google-Fu tho. I have had to learn quickly, driveline angles, welding, upholstery, electrical... all the things.

Frame/ Drive Train
Every nut and bolt have come off this ol girl. Every Bearing and seal replaced.
It has a 4.5" Skyjacker lift. 285/75/17 Tires and 3.54 Gearing. Likely need to change to 4.11/4.27 at some point.
DriveTrain
It currently has a 04 LM7 with 01 intake/throttle body/ECU. 4l60e from 09 Colorado and NP241c from 1998 1500.
I used PCMHammer to modify the ecu and remove VATS.
Interior
A custom digital display will be added utilizing my older Galaxy phone with smashed screen and an automotive LCD display. Will update with pictures once that's complete.
Modified and wrapped dash in marine grade leather. First time doing anything like that... id give myself a solid B.
Atoto 10" media display.
The bench seat is from 09 silverado. Perfect fit surprisingly and i got cupholders!!! My brackets need some work.
Future Plans
Mount S10 Fuel tank in stock location...yes it fits after some light hammering muahaha
Locate/purchase/modify driveshafts.
Patch remaining spots on Body
Durabak smooth over entire body.
Bunch of other cool stuff.
Frankenstein NP241c and NP242 together. (Bought everything i need. Decided to wait until after truck runs and moves to do any crazy stuff)

Hope you like my project. I'll try to stop by more any answer any questions.

Quite a change from what you started with. Impressive. Bet you don't see many of those in Saskatchewan!

Apparently, farmers up here loved them. I know my uncle swore by FSJ trucks right until they stopped making them. Sadly, my cousin informed me those were scrapped few years before I fell in love with FSJs. I know of a handful of FSJ trucks up here. Seen a few here and the mothership also. If the guy with the twister replica truck is still around, he's from my hometown in Saskatchewan. PM Me so i can come drool over your truck and swap stories.

Biggest problem is the salt ate these trucks hard. I just picked up a 3rd one that looks like swiss cheese. However, it was 100% complete. $700 for the truck and i get all the trim pieces, solid interior, good glass all around and other spare parts. Going to have to buy a new house to fit all my trucks.

Need more info on the Frankenstein NP241c and NP242.. I have the 242 with the Tom Woods upgraded shaft and SYE. I need drivers drop, so maybe the hybrid is not an upgrade for me, but always interested in something that is stronger. I like having the full time 4wd, which is why I went to the 242 from the original 229.

Nice looking build! You have definitely made great progress.
