1979 jeep j10+1989 GMC Jimmy project

Post by thej10guy »

So I have a 1979 jeep j10 lwb and a 1989 GMC Jimmy like the old K5 blazers, and I need to sell them both to fund my other project (a 1983 jeep j10 honcho with an ls). I want to sell them together just to get them both out of the way. The 1979 j10 is rusty (floors, bed, fenders) but there is quite a bit of salvageable parts on it. We were planning on making an offroad buggy out of it by putting the orange truck body on the GMC frame because the tub of GMC is also rusty. The GMC has a 350 with a throttle body fuel injection that runs good and smooth without smoking or making any noise. Then we would bob the bed of the j10 since it’s rusty and lift the rig and put bigger tires on it. It wouldn’t be that hard but we need the space, I need the money, and I don’t have time. My brother is going to Arizona in the fall for college and is leaving his cars here so we are putting a storage unit with his cars in it where these two are currently parked. If you are interested, comment on this post or PM me. I’m asking 1500 for the pair. I would trade towards a rust free short bed box for a j10 for my 83. The j10 doesn’t have a seat and I’m keeping the black interior out of it. I will throw in a tan interior for a j10. The GMC interior is really nice, no tears in the seats, etc. I also have a new fuel tank and fuel pump for the GMC. Image

Oh I forgot to mention the GMC also doesn’t have doors or a grille. And yes I posted this in the parts sales because I accidentally posted it in the wrong page.

The j10 doesn’t have an engine but it has a good transmission and t-case and axles.

In my listing I said the orange truck was rusty, but it is fixable. The visor above the windshield is incredibly and surprisingly solid. The floors are fixable if you get replacements for the footwells on both sides. The cab corners aren’t too bad, for a offroad toy they would be ok, otherwise you would want to replace them. Fenders are also fixable, no massive holes anywhere.

Those two trucks sound like fun projects.

Sure at that price, they should move quick :)

If I wouldn’t have the asking price in fuel to come and get them I’d be on my way.

Yeah thats a problem I feel like no one on this forum is located even close to where I am. I feel like every one is down south, out east, or out west.

Seems like it, but if more would fill in the "Location" box on their profile, you would be surprised how close others are to you.

And more often they travel right through your town, not even realizing you are there.

The truck has a 3 speed manual transmission (T-18 maybe?). I am located on the West side of Wisconsin right on the Mississippi. I am on the outskirts of La Crosse if you know where that is.

I forgot to mention, the GMC does run and move under its own power. The j10 doesn’t run (anymore because it has no engine) but it ran well and the transmission and axles all were smooth with no grinding sounds of any sort.

Bump. I still am looking to sell these and they will most likely get scrapped if I don’t sell them. The gmc still runs well, doesn’t smoke at all. It’s got a th400 with an np241. 4wd and all gears work. Make an offer, I don’t want to scrap them but I need some money and some space.

There are 2 major differences between new Wranglers and FSJs. FSJs are meant to be both utilitarian and capable, not just capable. FSJs are also rarely initially recognized as Jeeps by the average American.
