Bit of a delima...I have a 3 belt pulley setup with 2 on PSC power steering pump and 1 on alternator. Recently upgraded to cs144 so I assume it has more drag being higher output.
I get belt squeal from alternator sometimes ...but if I run only a single Belt on power steering pump I get slip/chatter when turning wheels at near stopped speeds.
Before I play around with belt sizes.... Any suggestions?
Belts are new, psc pump new, alternator new, all pulleys new and steering box is new redhead unit.

I would install a 2 groove pulley on alternator and run two belts
So the picture may have been deceiving...I have 2 belts running power steering. I can install and run a 2 groove pulley on the alternator (i have one)...but with only 1 power steering belt I get squeel and chatter at low to zero speed turning of the wheels.
Should I be able to run a single PS belt?
Or is there some way to run 2 PS and 2 alternator belts?
Your problem could be the "bling" factor on your pulleys. Looks not always the best for function!
Too shiny and smooth, and nothing for the belts to grab onto, so under load you get some slipping.
I would say to run them as they are, and the belts will "break in" the surface of the pulleys as they run, and any squealing should diminish over time.
If you want a solution now, take something and rough up the running surface of those pulleys just a little, so the belt can get a good hold of them without slipping.

I don't think there is any factory precedent for dual belts on the power steering. You have big tires, but they are not outrageously big. I thought that, for the original engine, the dual belt pulley was needed for the air conditioning compressor. The dual pulley alternator was there because it shared the belt path with the AC and was a convenient way to adjust the belt tension.

Thanks for all the input...I still have a dual belt pulley for the alternator I can use if need be. After I get back from my weekend trip i'll take a look again. But for now I'll just drive it and monitor. Currently it only chirps/squeals a little at startup and before its warmed up.
So as I'm understanding, Most folks with my setup run dual Alternator belts and single PS. Gives me the direction I needed if it becomes an issue.

Correct, the back pulley on the power steering pump was for the air pump. So factory setup was single P/S belt. Have you tried getting it a little tighter?
When I had AC and a CS140 the belts would scream when the compressor kicked in. I got rid of the AC and now run the CS140 with two belts and the PS with one belt and it all works good. (37" tires). The second groove on the PS pully was to run the A.I.R. pump, it wasn't a duplicate belt.
Just Closing this one out. I replaced the fancy billet single groove pulley with my old dual groove on the CS144. I also replaced the PS Belt with a Top Cog Style V-Belt and all appears to be well. No squeak or belt slip on either so far.
Alternator Belts are Gates 7417
PS Belt is a Dayco Top-Cog 15530
The billet crank pulley has a slightly smaller diameter than stock....so these belt sizes may not work for others. Took me quite a bit of playing around to find belt sizes I liked. To be honest, the PS Belts I had put the pump just about at the end of the adjustment range. So the one I used was a bit shorter to compensate. Gonna order a few extra belts of each and throw them into the parts stash.
