Mastercraft Baja RS seats for Christmas!!

Post by rocklaurence »

I've had several FSJ bucket seats re-covered. The last set was for the Ugly Truck with black vinyl and Gray inserts. That was 4 years ago and cost $400--not the greatest quality but OK-for Ugly. So, knowing that to get a set recovered for the Shop Truck-J20 would likely be $400-$500 I have been looking for replacements. Summit had these seats listed at $446 each on Black Friday and are still on sale! Im more than willing to pay the extra to get quality seats even though I only drive this truck a few hours a week. If I like them, Ill put them in all my FSJs. Ill report on the fit and what it takes to adapt them to the current seat sliders.

Nice!

they will bolt up or should anyway. My seats are designed to bolt in a CJ, YJ, TJ and bolted right to my original slider. I had to adjust the height some, but it was minimal.

Im still waiting on delivery. Im also making a video on restoring the truck cardboard headliner. Ill use this opportunity to install the headliner, get the dome light working and install the seats. Ill post up a notice of the headliner video here once its loaded and I also high-light the MJ mirrors with the vent window delete.

That's actually pretty good, my last PRP's were 3 months out, but were made to order with my choice of fabrics.

The seats arrived this weekend! They look great-I just have to find the time to install them. Im going to video the process because I have to finish the Headliner Episodes. Which requires wiring the new LED dome lights.

Well. I spent some time last weekend installing the Master Craft seats. The old sliders/rack do mount and only need adjusted by a 1/4" on each side to align with the floor mounts. However, I had to replace broken springs and make new mounts for the Slide levers etc. Now Im Fretting with the height and Forward/Rearward positions in the truck. These seats are a little higher than the old. Placing the driver closer to the steering wheel. I hope that I can correct it by tilting the seats but I may have to cut and lower the seat brackets. Ill keep you updated

OK, I drove the truck around today and I dont like the seating position. Even after tilting the seats its still too high. So, Im going to look at trimming down the seat mounts and take some taper/lean-back out of it. Just on the driver's side. The Passengers can Suffer.

The stock seats in the '88 always bothered me because of the way they leaned back. If it didn't mean giving up head room I'd have wanted to put washers in the back to straighten it out.

Remind me not to ride in your truck ;)

There are 2 major differences between new Wranglers and FSJs. FSJs are meant to be both utilitarian and capable, not just capable. FSJs are also rarely initially recognized as Jeeps by the average American.
