With the buy back from the insurance company I still cleared $10,000. This should give me enough to rebuild it.

I have a quote for $5000 for body work and paint. May be lower since I will be stripping the body down for them. The quote was if they did the prep work.

Engine rebuilder quoted $300-400 to tear down the motor inspect and re-gasket.

Looks like I will be going with the Painless Wiring 21 Circuit Classic Customizable Chassis Harness - GM Keyed Column P/N 10102 and H-4 Headlight Relay Conversion Harness P/N 30815 to get the wiring back into shape.

Still leaves quite a bit of cash left to replace other items that burned up under the hood as well as the windshield.

Not sure about soon. All the shops here are behind 4-6 months. I was working with a small shop in another city. He is about 2 months behind at this point. I have to get it tore down so that should be just about right.

Good to know that you are on your way to repairs.

Yes, it seems that everything is taking a long time... even ordering a water pump for the other car (another relic), it is on backorder...

Thanks. Good luck with the relic. I have a few here myself and another on it's way soon.

Just spent a bit over $3000.00 for nearly all the parts I need for the repair. Also, picked up some goodies for the body/paint guys. Still plenty $ left over for gotchas. I hope to start the tear down this weekend.

One thing I will say is that it does pay to shop around. Prices are all over the place for most parts. Rockauto still seems to be the big winner on most things though. I did have to go with a dual diaphram brake booster because the singles for the '77 were not available or way too much. I got the dual booster for a '83 for under $100.00 with core cost added.

Also, I made a list yesterday with prices. Today when I ordered the parts some prices had already changed by a few cents. Inflation at it's best.

Trying to recall if anybody here has done the dual diaphragm conversion on a 70's FSJ here without changing the master cylinder. The aluminum master cylinder from the 80s is different. So you may find you need a matching master cylinder.

Oh, I do think the rod length is different for the thicker booster.

Yes the master does need to be changed as well. I ordered one of them too. I do believe there is some issue that raises the pedal up higher from the floor. Not sure if it is the rod to the master or the rod to the pedal that is the issue though. It was a upgrade I had looked at a few years ago, but at that time dual diaphragm boosters were quite expensive. When I get to it I will compare the lengths of the rods.

Went to a local salvage yard yesterday after work and managed to pick up a hood off a '81 Cherokee. It had the supports removed, but the skin was nearly perfect.

I have ordered most everything that needs to be replaced. Just got my painless wiring kit last week. Started the tear down process last weekend. I hope to get more done this weekend. Slow going with everything else I have to do.
