Bronco Super Celebration 2023

Was hoping to run into @Yeller down here at the Bronco Roundup in East TN.

Lots of very nice rigs at this show. Not a huge Ford fan, but I have to give credit where it is due.

The paint work on some of these vehicles was unmatched. It was refreshing to see people who still laid down a nice high gloss enamel v.s. some of the crazy wraps I see at Jeep events.

One true craftsman, Mr. James Duff was a real pleasure to talk to. He hand painted these 2 Broncos "Pony Express" and "Hi Ho Silver" which were stunning to see up close. He was kind enough to share some tips and techniques for airbrushing and candy paint / metal flake which I want to try my hand at.

The rest of these are just some of the rigs that I liked.

Would be curious to see how one of these handles on the trails. The short wheel base and coil spring / solid axle combo seem like they would tackle some pretty technical obstacles, even in stock configuration.

They also use the Dana 20 transfer case, Dana 44 front ends and some of them have Ford 9in rears. I am guessing the manuals are a T18 transmission.

I am sure you could gear one of these low enough to climb a tree. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Sorry I missed you, sure wanted to go but was a logistical impossibility this year. It is one of the best shows I’ve had the pleasure to attend, I’ve made a lot of friends at that event. Be sure to give me a shout if you are attending any more “bronco” events, might just be the icing that twists my arm lol. I’ll be holding at you the next time I’m in GA.

James Duff is a great individual with stories for days. I’ve had the pleasure of him riding with me trail riding on multiple occasions for a day, great to be able to call him friend. Funny that you posted picture of Pony Express. The stance of it was the inspiration for my bronco.

What I say: "Those Broncos are awesome!"

Me in my head: "You don't need the '78-'79 powder blue Bronco. You have a bright blue '70s 4x4 already, and access to a Dentside truck. You don't need to drool over it!"

Heh.

I like the rusty blue one.

Back when I bought my new '73 CJ-5, my Dad lobbied for a Bronco instead. I wonder how my life would be different if I had followed his advice. I also considered a new BMW 2002tii, and bought the Jeep instead.

Certainly I would regret not having the Bronco now.

Lol. Nothing wrong with an FSJ at a Bronco event. There were a lot of misc vehicles like 1st Gen Cummins, old school Land Rovers etc.

The powder blue one was one of my favorites. The color just looked so awesome. I thought it was a SS enamel, but I talked to the painter and it is a Urethane base coat / clear. It also had king ranch interior which was a nice touch.

Yes, I would have liked to have one as well. The rusty one was on sale for 17K. There was a blue first gen that had a frame off restoration, coyote motor, Atlas T-case etc. on sale for 215K.

They definitely hold their value.
