Howdy, jeepers,
I have chance at a 1978 4 door Cherk with stick shift. The seller says it's got a 360, so I imagine that'd be in front of a t18 and dana 20, right? Anyway, my question is whether it'd be more likely to have 3.07, 3.54, or (please, oh, please) 3.73 diff gears? Thanks in advance!
Could be a T-15 three-speed with a 2V 360. Or a T-18. Yes Dana 20.
The '78 TSM is here https://oljeep.com/edge_parts_man.html and will show you the standard and optional ratios. Maybe 3.54 not 3.73 likely 3.07 if I had to guess.
Way more info in the TSM than any thread here could have.

Blockchain the vote.
3.73's would be and aftermarket install, Check to see if the rear axel vent tube is installed, its between the pumpkin and brake backing plate on the drivers side, mine was missing and the pumpkin was completely trashed out along with all the axel bearings, so i was forced into a front and rear gear swap with 3:73s, and eaton trutrac posi's just so you dont have any surprises, a 4dr cherokee would be a nice catch, 1 draw back a 4 door reseal will run you about 1500-2 k for just the door and window seals. mine were hard as a rock and everything rattled like hell till i replaced all the seals but it would be a great buy
Personally, I have never seen a manual trans 70's wagon with 3.07s. They have all been 3.54s. I am sure they exist, just not sure how common they were.
Thanks, Stuka, that's what I wanna hear!
Too bad the thing is 5 hours away and the seller can't communicate worth a dime. I seriously wanna land this thing.
