We can dream everything is plug and play can’t we?
In your situation I may not use the exact transfer case but one close. The front output and electric shift can be a bear to deal with on the later cases. I’d look more at an early/mid 90’s 241 with manual shift and use that but really any of them will work all the way to current. For the most part they all interchange.
You will need motor and transmission mounts, either purchased or fabricated drive shafts, a way to shift everything, and updated fuel system. It will also need an instrument cluster figured out, there is no speedometer drive on any of the factory tcase options. Then there is AC, that will need adapted. Then there is the wiring that has to happen to make everything work. It can be daunting but can be done, just takes planning and a lot of work.
