For You LS Swap guru's

Post by b00sted »

What kind of issues will I run into if I chose to ls swap my 87 GW. It is currently a 360 auto 727 and I do not know the transfer case. I know I will need mounts from BJ but I was wondering if it would be best to get the t case from the donor and swap it in as well instead of doing a trans rebuild with a new output shaft. I know it cannot be as simple as replacing my old one with the new donor is it? I imagine I will have to get the drive shaft ends replaced as well... I am just trying to get a plan and an Idea as to what I need to look forward to.

We can dream everything is plug and play can’t we? 😂

In your situation I may not use the exact transfer case but one close. The front output and electric shift can be a bear to deal with on the later cases. I’d look more at an early/mid 90’s 241 with manual shift and use that but really any of them will work all the way to current. For the most part they all interchange.

You will need motor and transmission mounts, either purchased or fabricated drive shafts, a way to shift everything, and updated fuel system. It will also need an instrument cluster figured out, there is no speedometer drive on any of the factory tcase options. Then there is AC, that will need adapted. Then there is the wiring that has to happen to make everything work. It can be daunting but can be done, just takes planning and a lot of work.
The bus I ride is so short it is a yellow Smart Car full of squirrels, monkeys and clowns.
