Car shows.. No one seems to care about amc

Post by candymancan »

So i hsve been to about 14 diff car shows this year. Bringing my Grand Wagoneer. Polisjing. Buffing. Wiping it down everytime.

And i go for fun and to talk to other people. But i dont win anything lol. Top 40 or top 50 trophies even lol. Last one had 140 cars. And i got 0 votes.

I noticed im the only AMC vehicle. Only Jeep. Every car is a typicsl ford. Chevy truck or Mustang. Camaro.. etc.

Nothing really unique. The people who win stuff dont even work on their own cars either.. i noticed 70% if these people are just old guys or women with money who bought it like it is.

Maybe im a tad bitter lol. But my Jeep is pretty.. shiney... snd mint inside. Sure its daily driven.. but damn. I never even see a regular amc vehicle. Im actually happy i own what i own because no one else does. You see a million Lowered ford pickups with a wood bed.. or a typicsl muscle car.. but never these that we all have.

Lol.

We have a lot of Jeeps show up at Car shores here, and normally a few AMCs.

Could be a regional thing. Sure, we also have a lot of vehicles from the big three, but also plenty of less common stuff. But we also don’t have issues like rusty and such, so just a lot more cars overall.

There's a big swap meet here in Portland that has very minimal AMC, but there is some representation. BJ's goes - that's always fun!

There probably just weren't as many AMCs produced, and if you're in an area with rust they're almost non-existent.

First time (2021) I went to the Good Guys show in the Bay Area the judges didn't even look at the truck but got lots of notice from the crowds, next year GG put me inside and got a outstanding vehicle award, think it was the only FSj there.
Last year at SEMA there was a FSJ Waggie on display outside, I was asked by TORA to display but just too much hassle to get it down there and stand around all week.
Lately I put the truck in local shows around the Sonora area where 4WD vehicle are common and usually get some kind of award.
I think older judges expect to see the more common hot rods like 32 roadsters or trifive chevy's and don't know what to think of a odd vehicle someone has spent of time and money on to bring up to show quality, but things are changing had a guy comment to me (at Rods to Rails, Jamestown) he always won got some kind of trophy for his 48 Ford coupe and this year went away empty handed.

Cheers

Well…technically you have a Chrysler based on your signature ;~>

I see a few AMX and Javelins from time to time. They just didn’t make as many. And to be honest, the big three were making better looking muscle cars IMO.

I went to a 'cars and coffee' with the Jeep a few times. No prizes. Stilrunz brought his J10. We got a lot of looks and pictures taken. I'd let kids sit in the driver seat.
Not a lot of AMC's at any of them but there was a .... Pacer! Baby blue with flames. Rear window louver. The license plate read 'prty on'

I was really just joking around about the Chrysler thing on the GW. Chrysler bought AMC in 1987. The GW was baked already obviously. The Chrysler label was just a name change. I think AMC started using the 727 in their cars in the early 70’s. In the Jeeps it was 1980 to 1991.

I’m curious about your comment on the ZJ design? Are you saying AMC had this design in 1987 which ultimately came out in 1993? I don’t know anything about it but like I said…I’m curious.

The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors (AMC) engineers were designing a successor to the smaller Jeep Cherokee (XJ).[1] Three outside (non-AMC) designers — Larry Shinoda, Adam Clenet, and Giorgetto Giugiaro — were under contract with AMC to create and build a clay model of the replacement model, then known as the "XJC" project.[2] However, the basic design for the Cherokee's replacement was well under way by AMC's in-house designers and the 1989 Jeep Concept 1 show car foretold the basic design.[3]
The Grand Cherokee was the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product. Development work for the new model continued and Chrysler employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late-1980s release date; however, then-CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late 1992 as an Explorer competitor.
The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. Then-Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young up the steps of Cobo Hall and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Production of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan and has remained there since.

This pic is AMC's design that Chrysler concept built in 1989. So YES the ZJ is the last AMC vehicle

Bought my wife a 1992 Grand Cherokee. It was a fine car, until it burnt up.

We had a car show here on Saturday for Airport Day at our local airport. Out of the twenty five or so cars, two were AMC.

SonoraEd’s J10 (member here):

A great looking AMX with a 390 that I see semi regularly:

Thanks Stuka for coming to the Airport Day was better than I thought it would be.
This year I'm showing the J10 at SEMA for TORA (truck and off road assn) so at least one FSJ will be there!

I drive by a cars and coffee almost every Sunday. There's a couple cool 40's and 50's models, but it's mostly jacked up trucks and Jeeps that look like they were bought off the cover of a 4x4 magazine.

There's a community car show this weekend. Not sure what I'd see, but in the community I've seen a cool hotrod, a 70's Bronco, and my neighbor has a couple of Olds muscle cars. I haven't seen any Jeeps that are older than the last few years of XJ's and maybe some mid-late 2000's Wranglers.
