Which battery would yoy guys recomend ?

Post by candymancan »

Now i need a battery for my J10 its about 80% done and ready for the road.. minus me getting a title for it lol.

But yea.

Its got basics.. no power anything besides a.c and tjat wont be used for a long time. If it even works.

Might add some lights later on though. But yea. Normally all my Jeeps ive bought the everstart Maxxx batteries in walmart. . Never had a issue with em. And that 3 year warranty.. where you can litterally return it after 2-3 years and get a new one if you kill it is kinda cool.

But they are so expensive now.. 160$. Sware they were like 100$ just a few years ago. So i was looking at the value/basic one. Class 24 i believe the cca is like 585/675 or somewhere around there. And its only like 60$. But i know the class 27 fits its thr biggest battery you csn fit in the wagoneer.. with 810/1000cca. Thats in my gw, and it fits fine in the J10.

But i see no value 27 class. Jist a value/basic 34 and 24

What do you guys think ?

I was a big OPTIMA fan for years. Last Century my friends father was a source for these batteries. You could not kill them even in the Arizona heat. Okay, exaggeration but they lasted much longer than the non-sealed regular plated batteries.

But over the years the product they are putting out just doesn't perform as well as the originals.

I replaced my Optima's with Excide Odyssey. So far so good, but they do hurt the pocket book.

I run a yellow top optima in my Jeeps, but they are overkill if you aren't running a winch or a lot of accessories or something.

I have had good luck with Excides for general use. But yeah, batteries are expensive. My next battery may be a lithium, as the are way lighter, have more capacity, and last much longer than lead acid. Though they are also even more costly.

I did run a slightly undersized battery in my Cherokee because I needed a battery in an emergency (I think it was like 650CCA? Was many years ago), and it had a hard time starting the Jeep in even moderately cold weather (like, right at freezing). It was admittedly an off brand, so its possible it underperformed for that reason. I ended up replacing it with an Orbital (Which I don't think is made anymore).

the 24F at Costco was $110 last week... the 10 year old Costco finally bit the dust, the voltmeter was acting up... in fact it was the new V belt that got stretched within 70miles...

the other wag has the Walmart 24F as well, 4 years ago it was $55, the local stores were charging in the $100.

Whi h size 24f i sadly could not affird the 160$ everstart maxx battery with 800cca. Also forgot about that 16$ core charge walmart does.. So i had to get the 24f everstart plus with 600/725 cca.

So i hope it starts this thing ok.

I had to look at the batteries, the Wally Everstart is 585/730 cca and the Costco is an Interstate, with 875/700cca, someone got the labelling mixed up!

Post edit: where I am it is never hot... too much coastal fog! no need for fancy batteries!

IMO, the replacement warranty is the most important part. I always get an AGM [no gassing or corrosion] with a 3 year replacement warranty. If you live where its hot, a cheap battery will die in two years and the Warranty will save you from buying a new one. True, they are >$200 but worth it.

Costco batteries are rebranded Interstate batteries. I run them in all mine.

So far the 24f everstart plus is doing well. Starts the J10 with ease. Had to repair the battery tray mounting by welding a new side plate for the bottom of the battery to clamp on. But its holding fine now.

So I’m looking at this too, the battery in my GW is bad. It had a 34 in it with 800cca, any issue with just getting another one of those? Or is there a benefit to the 24 series

This thread is kinda like an oil thread, but I run the Odessey ODX-AGM34M.
It is a marine starting battery, and it has a set of standard post, and a set of smaller post on top.
I run a refrigerator, inverter, stereo, two SPAL radiator cooling fans, a 12000 pound winch, 80W/100W H4 headlights and aux lights.
Is it kinda pricey?
Well yeah, but cry once I say??

Here is where I bought mine: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ody-34m-pc1500st
