Anyone retrofit a rear glass wiper to their jeep wagon?

I'm thinking about adding a tailgate window wiper. The recent crazy weather has demonstrated how limited the visibility is without one.

Just thinking about it and wanted to see if anyone had done it, what unit they selected and why and any recommendations or issues encountered.

Pretty sure some have used the Durango rear wiper to replace the original GW wiper. Might be enough similarity to allow a retrofit as well as a replacement. Search for that brought up several threads.

If you don't have an existing wiper, it's a pain, but it has been done.

I think there might be a thread here, but there's 2 or 3 at IFSJA--you have to take a Dremel with a cutting wheel to get the wiper motor to go through, and then you'll have to figure out how to get some holes drilled to mount the motor.

Kind of a pain, might be easier to scope out salvage yards for an existing gate with a wiper already in it. Based on what I've read, I'd definitely recommend the Durango motor (same as ZJ I believe), bolts right up IIRC.

Still noodling on whether or not to do this. If I do, I'll update the thread for others in the future.

The wiring wpuld be simple jist fish the right size wire depending on the motor wattage and wire length through the harness or not up to you.. and in the tailgate.. use a relay and small trigger wire on a switch on the dash.. inline fuse.

Then follow the durango motor conversion for the 89-91s.

I did the durango motor on my 90 like 5 years ago. You have to build a bracket for it in the tailgate with metal but its all covered in the write up i believe
