Intake oil baffle on an Edelbrock 2131

So I know this question has been asked many times and I read through a bunch of threads but couldn’t find the answer exactly.

Did 360’s come with valley pan gaskets from the factory?

Do you need to use the stock oil baffle on an Edelbrock 2131 if you are using a valley pan gasket? It seems the valley pan would prevent the oil from splashing up.

I’m asking because the 360 I pulled out of my CJ to go into my Chief has a 2131 on it which I removed to reseal. I don’t have the baffle on it. I thought I had put it on some years ago when I installed it but I guess I didn’t. And…I don’t have one handy. I thought it was the right thing to do…installing the baffle, but after reading some threads it seems it might not be necessary?

And…apparently there are two different baffles. The EGR ones are different. My 2131 is non EGR and I’m guessing non-EGR baffles are a bit hard to find. It seems like it might not make too much difference going from EGR to Non-EGR though. The other way around might be more of an issue.

Thoughts?

They do have the continuous aluminum valley gasket from the factory. Gr 1 - L 17 in the parts book. The baffle plate on the manifold was not a service part.

and finding the edelbrock performer intake manifold, no EGR, purchased many years ago!

the baffles are similar,

The oil baffle is very important to use. Not using it will result in oil consumption.

There are differing opinions on using the valley pan. But as they used them from the factory, I have always used them when reinstalling an intake on an AMC V8.

Oh, and when I replaced the intake on my '75, I put a 2131 intake w/o EGR. The '75 had an EGR from the factory. And I did re-use the stock oil baffle. Its been a long time, but I do not recall any issues using it.

If your not in a super big hurry I have one somewhere here that you could have.
We just got two feet of snow today, so it might take me a week to find it?

But yes!
On ALL my AMC V8s I use the valley pan, and the baffle that goes on the intake.
I did have a factory AMC 360 intake that never had a baffle from the factory. Kinda weird I know?

But my Performer intakes on my 401, and the 360 have baffles that I installed.

If it helps add to the conversation, I restored the 304 in my CJ-7 and it had the Edelbrock intake installed from the previous owner with no baffle. Even with a fresh rebuild and proper break-in, it would still consume a few quarts between oil changes. After approximately 20,000 miles, I removed the intake and installed the baffle while using the valley pan style gasket. Now oil consumption is nominal. Yes, the baffle is needed.

Just now in the middle of conversion to 4 bbl with Edelbrock AMC Performer intake (non EGR too), and yes.....I asked and was advised to transfer the baffle over. I used the screws that were in the cast OEM 2 bbl intake.
