70 J2500 fuel cap ring on filler

My truck has this style of filler. The ring the bolts on top of the flange to the bed side has a 1-1/2” hole. All of the fuel caps that I can find that fit the hole, the gasket and retaining ears are too deeply recessed in the cap to fit, I’ve plasma cut 1 to fit. It have lost it. The only caps I can find with the proper OD and recess are for a 1-3/8” ID filler neck. Before I get really creative and make a new neck, does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement metal flange with a 1-3/8 hole?
Or a part number or application for a cap that fits?

From the outside, yours looks more like a CJ style filler. But the CJ style would not work most likely because it doesn't bend down quick enough to clear cavity in that corner of the bed.: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cwa-j5364760

Looked through 10 pages of filler necks on summit. There are some Ford ones that look super similar, but they only have five mounting holes, instead of the 6 that Jeep uses. But could be made to work.

In this application the flange is just a stamping that holds the cap, the neck is rubber, the rubber hose has been recently replaced. I have an early bronco neck, it may get cut up….

Finding gas caps is not a new topic here...

Maybe you should look for a flange from a later example. Looking at the listings, the flange changes in 1972 and those number continue through '77.

The 999332 and 999333 numbers are typical of the Kaiser-AMC transition era. 4-13 uses a molded flange and 4-14 is less the molded flange, fitting over the filler pipe I presume. Kinda think you are better off with one of these parts, and change the flange to the slip-fit in the hose. L and WCFE are less and with controlled fuel evaporation, resp. Notice the wagons used the same parts, so there should be pretty good availbility of both the flanges and the caps.

This is the filler on my '77. The inner diameter is 1.5".

There are 14 different listings/lines for J-truck gas caps in the '74-80 book. Not surprising the aftermarket listings are wrong. If you want I will scan that section (split over two pages) and you can try to cross some of those part numbers.

You can buy a Thriftside cap that's listed as 1.5". Maybe you could put the two together to make one that fits? You have some skills...

Thank you Tim. that's what I did on the last one, only it didn't really look great, I couldn't get the pieces to all play nice together. I have that cap as well, I bet I have $250 in gas caps that I've bought trying to make this work. I just want a gas cap and it work

maybe just pull the steel ring and TIG on 1/16" of steel all the way around.... be far less time consuming than what I've spent looking for a gas cap

This is rapidly devolving from stock to modified lol. Picked up the permanent fix today. More to follow……

Isn't that for an '80-up? Looks like the part from my '82. You could slice the ring off and use your hose with the rubber flange, maybe.

Could be from an 80 up… 80 CJ so quite possible same part. Either way it uses the easy to find 1-3/8 hole gas cap.

45 minutes later here’s the pieces and parts all assembled, sliced the ring off and used it. I did change the clocking so the gas cap crossbar is horizontal when it’s on, just more pleasing to my eyes. It does stick out just a bit further but it’s not terrible and I’m no longer fighting for a gas cap, even an old one that I can rebuild, I have a pile of brand new ones that fit this.
