Wow, that thing has rust unplaced I have never seen rust on an FSJ!

Very few hot rodded FSJ's out there though. Looking forward to the build!

Oh and welcome to the forum :)

Thanks ! Yeah it's crazy that its rusted in the roof but the rockers are solid , everywhere I thought would for sure be rusted seams to be fine and the spots I thought would never rust are bad , I think when it was repainted they must have done some poor metal prep in those areas that's the only thing I can think would make those spots rust like they did , but if I can find someone parting a truck I can cut some pieces of there roof to patch mine it should be an easy fix

Sounds like the perfect excuse to find a donor, cut the roof off, and make yours a chop top...

Interested to watch this. Been thinking a 2WD Gladiator would be awesome to do something similar with.

So I have been tinkering and poking around on the truck in the mornings before I go to work and the frame is in great shape , it's almost ashame ill be choping it up , I got a lead on a wag at a local junk yard that I'm going to get the roof from for patch panels and the rear window . I also got the stuck tailgate opening and working , the window motor is not working but ill dig into that once I replace the glass. I tried some polish on the bumpers and trim in random areas to see how well it will clean and , they will look good with minimal work .

My budy is giving me an s10 2wd front frame so ill have that to use for the 2wd swap

I tried to start the 360 today and it would not even turn over so once I pull the motor trans and t-case ill be parting that stuff out

Ok so in search for a roof donor I found a better base to start building this project , ill be picking it up tomorrow and then ill just use the 86 as a parts truck

Here is a pic of the 83 that ill be getting
Image

Ill get more pix once I get it home but this one actually runs and drives and the owner clams the only rust is in the rocker and well I would rather patch rockers and floor boards than roof sections A-pillars and drip rail so this will be my new base to build

Picked up the new wag and this one is in great shape it did not start as there is a fuel delivery problem but other than that there s only 2 rust spots and there in the rockers so that's an easy fix andthe passenger side window motors need replaced

On to the pix

So I washed the mud out from under the truck , washed it and tried some cleaner wax on a few spots and it actual shines up nice , ill do the whole thing later before I get it on the road and I looked all over the truck searching for rust and the only place that has rust is the two spots in the rockers so that will be an easy fix and the only dent is in the front fender lip , looks like the tire cought the edge at some point

Is it actually green, and not black? Or is it the trees reflecting?

More playing , took the caps and rings from my smoothies , the cap does not fit its to small so ill see if I can get some of the jeep caps that fit , I also decided to do a quick wax on the whole thing , one more good time with the cleaner wax and it will look great , I also hit two spots with some polish by hand and it looks great

Oh yeah I'm loving this new one , I can't wait to get it in the garage and get started laying it flat on the ground , it looks like its going to be fairly easy to stock floor body drop it .

It will be going in the garage in a few weeks , I got to weld in a low pro trans cross member in my buddy's Colorado before I can bring it in the garage and he can't get it over here for a few weeks

Got the 22s from my buddy last night and tried one on this morning and they fit just like I thought they would 1-1/4 of clearance between the lip of the rim and the inside edge of the fender

I will repainted them to get rid of the blue
