Saginaw Power steering conversion

Post by Irishjeeper »

Now I'm working on updating the 64 J 200 steering to power steering. Does anyone have any pics they can send me of their saginaw box and how they mounted it to their rig?

I would like to keep mine mounted to the frame like the old one, and do not know if that is possible or not. Most will bolt inside the rail and have to modify the steering arms or pitman arm. Any help is appreciated. thanks.

If you keep the OHC 6, I don't think there is another way you can do the steering unless you go to a full width Chev axle and mount an outside the frame steering box. The motor mount is right where the adapter I have from my '73 J4000 (which also drops the box down a couple inches and moves it inward as well)

Then once you remove the motor brackets from the frame, this bracket (stock '73 and older AFAIK) and the later steering column make it work.
