The AMC T400 flexplates look the same but are balanced different depending on the motor. Sometimes people don't know this and they get mixed. The flexplate for the adapter ring is different and they only made them for 304 and 360. If the wrong flexplate is used, very likely to have vibrations. Not installing the bushing ring in the back end of the crank will also produce vibrations because the TC will not be properly centered.

1974 was the switchover year for the nailhead 400. My '73 J4800 had the nailhead case w/adapter and I've got a '74 trans with the AMC bell.

Do the floors look that good or is it just the pictures? I don't see any rust.

A little surface rust but nothing that needs replacing.

The panels in the rear seat area are nowhere near as good as the ones you sold me.
Yes, I will need the seat cover.

Maybe we can hook up Sat.
No real progress after this past Saturday, I had to relax sunday after blowing all that NM hantavirus dirt out of my nose.

I did manage to get a key made that fits the doors and glove box.
A few things I read said that the doors, glove box and tailgate are the same key but this one does not operate the tailgate.
It could be that the tailgate lock was swapped at some point I guess.

What is the real story on the key operations?

On my 90GW the key that fit the glove box, both doors, and the tailgate is the same. But here again
I put the manual crank assemble in the rear so I keyed it that way.

The 88GW that I got from Flint is the same way.
Do you need a 74 Owner Manual for your Cherokee.
