Not a big deal, but another step in the right direction... I've been looking for a factory jeep key and with ignition and I scored one.

Thanks Jaber.

Hey, that reminds me... I went to the wrecking yard today, nothing there for your ECU. Still searching.

Every cowl induction hood needs a screen, so here's mine... A few more nips and tucks and it'll be ready for install...

I answered a 68 jeep gladiator ad awhile back and scored these...

Image

After a brief polish, the chrome ashtrays shined right up. I imagine these did not come from the factory this way. But who knows?

At any rate, I pulled the panel into the regular garage because that's where I'll do the body work and paint. So that whole process will start next weekend. My wrangler will be kept in the shop.

Image

I also plan on wrapping up most of the misc interior, too.

So, a little effort every night should make the process move along a little faster. So a halogen light angled to cast light in the hope to see any dents, dings, or bulges so filler can be applied in very small amounts.

Image

Image

Any rust spots have already been dealt with via the angle grinder with a wire brush attachment.

I start off with basic body shop grade filler (flows better than Bondo). I use red hardner and if it needs another layer of filler I'll use blue hardner.

Image

I don't do this for a living, but just for fun... There's more than one way to skin a cat, and more than one way to lay filler. All in all, if the prep work isn't good, the paint work won't be good.

Edit...

Tail lights are off: sand, filler, sand and sand. Light surface rust will get taken care of, then painted.

Image

Image

I've got to remove the rear bumper, that's the next step.

Edit:

It is starting to look like a Dalmatian... Only white with pink spots.

First round of body work is done, first round of sanding is next. The rear bumper bolts are soaking in penetrating oil.

I am looking forward to the step of epoxy primer! Then on to filler primer and a slew of block sanding.

Goal: painted by the end of March!

There must be 6 layers of white paint on this thing. At any rate the first go thru with the air sander has leveled off some highs and revealed some lows I did not catch before. On to round 2.

Typical Spring weather... Still sanding on the panel, so that hasn't changed.

On my way to the store, I saw this on the next block over:

This is the first time I've see this one. It has one piece door windows, I've never seen those before.

I have not seen that either. Must be custom cut glass.

That's what I was thinking. I like the way that looks over the typical set up, kind of a more modern look, but vent windows come in handy. If I see it again, I'll stop by and ask for some details on what he did.

I would think there would be a little less wind noise without the vent window. Is the side glass flat on these bad boys?

Yes, it's all flat glass. That's the nice thing about Willys!

Hey, it's the end of March and it isn't ready for paint! Lol. Right now, it took the drip rails and removed the cracked sealer, treated the insides with sealer and etch primered them. I did the same with the edges of the side panels- where they meet the body.

I moved it back into the shop. Now my goal is to have it painted by the end of April. No rush, though, it's a hobby, not a living.

Every pink spot is a low. Every grey spot is a lower! Lol. Now you know why the compressor is working over time.

I figure if I take my time and do this part right, the next step, epoxy primer, filler primer and hours of block sanding, will go faster and smoother. Pun intended.
