Ashtray bearings.

Post by Mrpatatomoto »

My ashtray's bearings have gone missing over its life and it sits crooked and blocks the glove box, which is missing the insert... does anyone have redneck solutions for the bearings? I thought about marbles but they're too big. Might have bearings out of a transmission in a box somewhere just have to start digging.

Find an old office desk with a drawer, take the ball bearings out of its rollers.

Any decent hardware store will have a big selection of bearings, I got mine at an ACE for my '71 F-250, made it work like new.

I just measured mine with a digital caliper and they are .490"
Close enough that a 1/2" ball bearing should work.

It'll be a bit tight but that's better than having it fall out.

Mines definitely in the .490 range not .22 its got 2 holes on each side. I tried to take a picture but the flash was causing too much glare.

Mine is a 77 with four bearings.
I don't remember the pre-74 bearings being that large and it seems there were more of them than just four....like a stack of 6-8 each side.
Then again, I may be mistaken.

Went to Mc BEEPY parts store since I was driving passed it and they were less than helpful. Gonna have to drive across town and go to the helpful store tomorrow.
