So, progress occurred during the Christmas break. Considering the state of the world, I am antsy do get her running before WWIII/Civil War/ Pandemic 3.0, Armageddon, depression, climate change, space aliens, a deadly asteroid or whatever other pile of crap is coming toward the fan.
Speaking of fans, all the fans that worked with the horton clutch were so huge that clearance with the super duty steering box up front was an issue. So we had options:
- Ditch the horton.
- Move the steering box and use a bigger fan.
- Use a custom made fan that would fit with the steering box where it was at, but possibly not move enough air with the big horton blocking all but 3.5 inches of fan blade.
The second and third options were not in the cards for our timeline, so the Horton is out for now and we are using a Chevy fan blade and clutch that we had laying around. I will revisit the Horton at a later date.
We got the following done:
- Made up a fan shroud and attached fan blade/clutch.
- Installed AC compressor
- Measured for a belt and installed it.
- Made a battery box to hold up to dual 31's. It fits into the driver side fender.
- Made up some hydraulic hose to connect hydroboost brake master to power steering pump.
- Acquired and mounted a power steering reservoir.
- Burned in the final axle spring perches/rests on the rear axle.
- Got brake lines mostly connected. Missing some connectors that no one had in the metro area.
- Fabbed up intake piping and silicone sleeves for turbo / CAC. Installed CAC and radiator.
- Figured out a plan for exhaust piping, dumping behind passenger rear tire. I wanted to go to the rear, but we may have shock clearance issues if we do that.
- Have some rough plans for shock hoop mounts. The front fender is simple enough. The rear gets more complicated. I am not willing to have the shock hang down unless its right by the tire (aka JK). We may cut the tub and extend the wheel well to make room for a shock hoop mount that doesn't sacrifice too much length or clearance. Otherwise, the mount will be by the tire.
- Ordered front driveline. The front driveline will be the same length as the rear one, so they are interchangeable, which is nice.
She almost ran and moved under her own power, but we were missing some brake connectors. Also we were waiting on the hydroboost hose from the hydro shop.
I am held up by the lack of a Vintage Air unit, we are going to have heater hoses and ac lines that we cannot finish until that gets here.
No pics right now, but I am going back soon and will have pics then and maybe a video of her moving.
There is still a long way to get her done, but moving under her own power and stopping and steering-- that will be a very good thing.
