New from AA... http://www.advanceadapters.com/products ... apter-kit/

I know what I'm asking for for Christmas next year! Overdrive!

Transmission

This kit is designed for exclusive use with the 4wd 700R-4 / 4L60 / 4L60E manufactured thru 1996. The overall case length of the transmission is 23.375”, has a non-removable bell housing, and a 4 bolt square rear case. Late model 4L60E automatics will have a removable bell housing and a 6 bolt hex pattern rear case. The late model automatic will require an additional Advance Adapter to work with this kit.

nice

I guess that at some point in time, I'm gonna have to remove my 4spd atlas and install a QT as they are apparently all the rave!

I'd be more than willing to make the sacrifice and selflessly give you my QT in trade for that crappy old Atlas thing. :P

Or I could part with many very "rare" 229 :D for your unmentionable map thingy.

I have looked at this adapter kit a few times over the years and I always come back to "it is not worth it to me".

I was under the impression that this had just been released. Has anyone installed this kit yet? I'm considering saving up for one while there still available and doing the swap the next time I need to do trans work.

Just curious, but I know the 4L80E willtake the TH400 output shaft. Will the TH400 QT adapter bolt on as well?

I wouldn't adapt a new transmission to a T case that you can't service or get parts for. Figuring the investment of a rebuilt 700R4 and the adapter [$1000-$1500] to fit a case that's on its Death-Bed, not gon-na do it.

I would love to do this swap, and then fuel injection on my 360. I would be curious to see how it stacked up against my last 5.3 Vortec 4L60E trans swap with the NP208 transfer case.

I have that kit on my 700r4 currently. It is waiting for me to dedicate a full weekend to swapping it in. The Components look to be plenty strong and well engineered. It also says that it keeps the overall lengths exactly the same! So no fabbing mounts or worrying about rear drive shaft. The Front Drive shaft CV joint is supposed to be a problem.

Now a question I have is our Double Cardan joint the CV joint they are talking about?? Maybe it is a lingo difference but I call them two different things. Were the later front driveshafts a different CV/DC joint???

It used to be that a CV joint used a tripode or similar drive shaft and used a three race or hub style receiver.
A DC joint is a double jointed affair employing a ball and two races/joints. The biggest difference between the two is a CV shaft compresses and extends at one or both ends whereas the double cardan typically employs a slip yoke separate from the joint.
To my knowledge, Jeep stayed with the DC front shaft until the end of US FSJ production. The only addition to the drive shafts I recall seeing coming off the car haulers from the factory was the accordion style slip yoke boots.
Unless terminology has changed, then they mean a CV specifically, or don't know the proper terms.

Double Cardan joints are sometimes mistakenly called Constant Velocity joints.

Actually the double cardan joint is one type of constant velocity joints.

Yep. A DC is a CV but a CV isn't necessarily a DC.

I stand corrected.

A DCJ is in fact a CV but for some reason the US factories never called them this.
Here is a cool animation of the DCJ found in our FSJs:

Yes, double carden joints are constant velocity. Has nothing to do with any slip joints or such.

Most newer vehicles (Such as my JK) use rzeppa joints. I don't think any car makers use tripod joints anymore, they used to be used in FWD applications.

Hey I am actually putting this kit in with a rebuilt 700R and my quadratrac. I had a problem with fitting though.. the output shaft of the 700 sticks out too far so when I put the spud shaft on and insert it into the quadratrac, there is about 3 cm of gap between transfer case housing and the advance adapter that is installed to the output housing of the 700. They say you need to have the original T case using, which I think I do. It came off a TH400..

Has anyone else tried this yet? Am I missing a housing extender on the 700? Do I have the wrong Tcase housing adapter on?

Alright, so my dumbass just didn’t realize I needed to modify the 700 output shaft.. got it all in now! Anyone who has done this, have you had any issues with the crossmember? I am off by about 1/4 inch from original mounting point.
