nc wagoneer: 77 j20 nissan ld28 project

Post by nc wagoneer »

So, I started this over on ifsja but for the day that she goes down I figured I oughta start it over here too. I just bought my second fsj, well the first was given to me but nevermind that, for the outstanding price of $800 I bought a 1977 j20 with a custom flatbed, a 360/t15/d20 combo with a full float Dana 60 rear and a heavy duty Dana 44 front. It has a bit of rust on it on the valance and the cab has a little bit. I am trading my 79 wagoneer for partsfor the j20 with Jake and Jackie at Jake's full size jeep junkyard. Here's a little sum up of what I plan to do.It also has nearly brand new 32's on it to boot. Only hitch is it has a bad clutch.

Fix rust
Maybe a small lift at most
Redo interior with cb and such
Replace clutch
Do an engine swap possibly diesel that will get me within +/- 20 mpgs
Pick up girls :D

HAHA!

I have to say, from what I've seen from the youths in my sphere of influence, I'm very glad to see the male prime motivator is alive and well SOMEWHERE in the world! :-bd

Stay the course nc wagoneer! When I was your age everybody told me that if I work hard I could have anything I wanted. I can't promise you that. I've worked hard my entire life and the only way I'll ever get a Bugatti Veyron is if I steal one. What I CAN promise you, is that if you work hard, you'll honestly want everything you have. ;)

Keep doing what you're doing and you'll have all the friends you want, a job that pays the bills and a girl you love for her personality, but that won't be what you brag about to your friends. :D

Don't be in a rush though, I went through 7 cars before I got my first FSJ. I always knew I wanted an FSJ, but I still had fun with Chevy's, Dodges and Buicks before hand. You pickin up what I'm puttin' down?

As for your plans with the truck, as usual, I think you're on the right path. I didn't cover my clutch replacement very well in my build thread, and while I have a T18 instead of the T15, the whole shebang was <$100 from Vatozone. Hardest part was supporting the trans while it was unhooked from everything. Seems your dad knows a thingertwo about a thingertwo so I'm glad you've got some built in mentorship in your endeavors.

Feel free to paruse my thread since I've tackled most of what's on your list. I'm getting about 16-18mpg, but that's probably largely due to a 304 swap from before I bought it.

Also, here's a video I left out of my build thread somehow...

Best of luck, I'll be keeping an eye on this one! :)

Yes, it takes work first, but girls around here don't care about the looks of your truck that much, just where it will go :-bd

Congrats on getting it home. I see plenty of factory rust but no factory radio antennae. The factory CB used the stock antennae.

It runs, just not right now with the engine belts missing. Won't be able to work on it this weekend due to my nephew turning 1. Next time I'm at my dads I'm gonna clean out the tank and take the belts off the waggy and put em on there to start it up!!! Is there a drain plug on th gas tank? If there is, how much of a pain is it to get to it due to the fuel tank skidplate???

No drain plug. Best bet is to drop the tank. Would be a good time to slosh a chain around in it to clean it out good.
