Here's a few shots of mine, 1963 California Forest Service model. The rack is original as far as I know, but I've never seen one before or since.

It is body mounted and I fear the sheet metal is indeed too thin. Seems supported inside. I'd like to rework it and strengthen it, as well as add zerks to the pivots for greasability. By contrast my XJ Smittybilt is a total brute.
