I'm looking at getting Hedman headers for the GW, these model# 99250 ones that say they are for 80+ Wagoneers. I know there may be some clearance, fitment, and heat issues, and that they're not going to be of very much benefit until I upgrade the cam and carb, but I need better exhaust and may as well put my effort into upgrading it all now. I don't mind doing a bit of work to clean up the flanges or ports if I need to. I plan to buy prebent sections of 3" pipe and cut and fit everything myself. I will use a single in-dual out CherryBomb Vortex muffler flipped backwards to double as my Y-pipe to save space, and then put a glasspack on the end of that, I figure that should keep my exhaust fairly quiet but retain the deep rumble sound. The design of the Vortex should allow it to function backwards just fine, it is at least far better than the lousy factory Y-pipe!
I need some pictures of the 99250's installed and how they are piped, I saw a few pictures searching here and IFSJA, looks like I'll need to have the driver's side pipe make a 90* bend right in front of the transmission crossmember, then 90* again and into the muffler. I'm also wondering how the 99240's would fit, those are listed for '79 and older Jeeps and look a bit longer, which I assume means I'd have less room for my 90* bends. As always, pictures and been there done that experiences greatly appreciated.
