Flint and I have been driving her to work regularly the past few weeks. We discovered the fuel pump - which is probably 20 or more years old - has gotten loose and will rattle on the wash board roads so that the electrical connection fails. We figured out pretty quick that you just coast to the side of the road, hop out, and pull the pump back towards the frame and the connection is established again. I reckon we ought to replace that sometime in the near future.
It was rather amusing when it failed in the main intersection of Mancos, and I had to lay on the road in my good work clothes with all sorts of traffic watching. At least I got a thumbs up from a couple guys when I hopped out, rolled under her, grabbed the pump without burning myself on the exhaust, got back in, fired her up and through the intersection in less than 40 seconds.
We also been banging our heads on why her fuel consumption is so damn god awful, why she won't start well, and why she's running a bit rough. She was getting maybe 8 mpg tops - probably less. Well....er.... durrrrr..... Flint just remembered that we had rejetted and tuned her for low elevation before we hit the Box Canyon trail where we rolled! She's been running at 7000 - 8000 feet but tuned for 4000 feet!!!!
So, she's getting rejetted, retimed and regapped plugs.
