I took it out on an easy trail in Utah when I was passing through , had a really fun time but as mentioned tires are an issue, but still holding together. They are however a tad bit too big so I got some 16 inch wagon wheels going to try to find some narrower tires.

Thinking of running 4.88 and overdrive, current tires are 32ish. Would that be too much gearing for the little diesel?
I'm able to do 70 on flat ground no problem with 3.73, t18 and current tires. 235 85 16, but I need more for inclines in traffic. People are getting pretty pissed at me when I have to slow to 35 in 3rd yewar to make it up hill.

I think you’d be just fine. You could also probably got to 4.10’s without the overdrive. The Mercedes will turn 3500rpm pretty easy. Here’s a few screen shots of rpm and gear ratios with an nv4500. With it the final ratio is pretty close to your current 3.73 at 3.66

The bus I ride is so short it is a yellow Smart Car full of squirrels, monkeys and clowns.
